Guzin AVCI'ya....

BEING A MOTHER FOR 5,000 STUDENT
To have a title of a mother, it is not necessary to birth. A mother is not only biological, but also, it can be by moral. Guzin Caliskan Avci is the best example for a moral mother. She handles with her student as a mother. She is like a rainbow in its color and what adds to the earth of beauty. In a big house with a garden full of green trees and colorful flowers, on the 29th of October, Caliskan's family had a new member named Guzin. Guzin Caliskan Avci was born in Ereğli-KONYA, Turkey, on the same date as the Turkey Republic Day. She is one of 10 sisters and brothers. Two brothers were married to two sisters. She said, "My father and my mother lived upstairs, and my mother's sister and my father's brother lived downstairs with their children, so we are more like one family which had 14 brothers and sisters." Gulten Atalay, Guzin's oldest sister said," When Guzin was born all family members called her 'Straining Yogurt' because of her pearly skin with red cheeks. She was the most beautiful baby I ever saw." Her childhood passed in a comfortable, peaceful, happy and loving family environment. Her school life, from primary school until high school, was full of enthusiasm, competition and friendship. She is grateful for her teacher who had a big role in her life in primary school In Turkey, the primary school classes has only one teacher for each class. She said, "He was a super teacher ever I had. In addition, what I had learned in primary school because of her was the strongest basic that affected my life." She attended mathematic competitions, music groups and she was a captain for many sports, such as volleyball. Furthermore, she used to be class president. When she was a child, all her skills in writing were a sign that one time she would become a teacher. She had good hand writing. She said, "My hand writing was good on the blackboard, and I was a good user of the board." She was a right hand, an assistant, for teachers for several years. She said that most of her school life as a student passed near the board instead of sitting in the students' row like other students. University life for Guzin was successful, however, she did not chose her career, "Fate chose my career," she said. Her father and sisters wanted her to be a lawyer or journalist. But fates had drawn for her another direction. In Turkey, students must take the OSS Exam (Student Select Exam), which examines student ability. With this score the Ministry of Education place the students in a section at university that matches with their score. Guzin, one day was one of the students who enrolled for that exam, but because of some traffic problems, she arrived late. That was the fate that changed her life from dreaming to be a lawyer or journalist to become a teacher. She studied at Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey, and graduated from the French Department with a degree of French. Two months after graduation, she lost her father due to a sudden heart attack. She did not start working. However, after a few months she realized that life would continue. She got her first job in the south eastern region of Anatolia and met with people who are different from the people in big cities. Her family opposed her going there, but she was determined. She said," People there showed me that life was not roses. I was just 22 years old and I had grown up faster and I was mature." There were 60 students in each class and she used to teach 40 hours per week. After that, she taught in many places all over Turkey. She taught more than five thousand students. She was like a mother, friend and then a teacher. She is a good mother and a most competitive teacher. She tries to connect with students most of the time. In class, she is disciplined, but when the class is over, she is a mother and a friend. Her sister Gulay Ozbudak said, "She carries students' problems and cries all the time. She does the best and she tries to solve their problems in any way." She takes care of their mental health and their education. She aimed to educate youth to be the pride of their homeland and nation. She loves young people and she sacrifices for them. One of the important events that she had was while she was teaching was when she wrote a play called 'Country' and it is about the love of country and how the youth must take care of their country. Her students acted. Many important visitors came to see the play such as the governor, safety management officials, national education management, and the captain of the military. She won the admiration of them all. However, not all her teaching experience is full of good memories. One of the bad memories that she cannot forget, and she still cries when remembering it, is when a 17-year-old student in her class died from a heart attack. She said in a sad voice that he was in love with a girl who did not have any sense of responsibility of love. Guzin explained that she tried hard many times to help the student to escape from the captivity of love, and that girl, but she failed. Eventually, Avci took the OSS exam again, did well, and went on to study management science. She said, "My objective was to be a good administor at the Ministry of Education in Turkey, and to serve good functions to education." However, she had to make a choice between a husband and career, so she refused her job offer, chose love, and went with her husband to Libya for his job. Her father, mother and Ataturk, the founder of the modern Turkish Republic, were her role models. Treating people fairly and helping poor and needy people are things that she copied from her mother and father. Realizing the importance of education, being fearless, not knowing barriers, and patriotism are things that she learned from Ataturk. Guzin Caliskan Avci is one of the fans of Mevlana, who is also known as Rumi, who was a philosopher and Sunni Muslim. She loves his poetry. One of her Favorite poems follows: *Kotu soz cirkeflestiri insani Suskunlugumu asaletimdendir, Her soze verecek bir cevabim var ama Lakin, bir soze bakarim sozmu diye.. Bir de soyleyene bakarim adam mi diye..!* That means: Bad words make bad human my silence from my dignity I have an answer to every word but However, I look for the word if it is word And I look to who say it if he is a human being..! Avci likes life. She said, "I like nature, humans." She has many hobbies. She likes to write articles, lyrics and poems. She has a big collection of diaries. She wishes sometime that she could make music. Her sister Rahime said, "Guzin is live action, she does not stay in her place, she used to play football." Moreover, she likes to draw and paint and the following are examples of her work. "Her heart is beautiful as much as her face," said her friend Neyyire. Guzin has a lot of friends that she loves and who loves her. Asuman said, "Her beautiful eyes cannot hide her heart beauty which is full of love." She added that Guzin carries the best facilities of a perfect teacher. Belkiz, her friend for 15 years, said, "Guzin is constancy, Guzin is mercy and compassion, Guzin is the name of the real endless friendship." Her cousin said that Guzin is one of the rare people that you can see in the world. And her sister's daughter Ulkem said, "Describing her with words is impossible, she cannot be described. You have to experience her." Finally, she has a successfully and happy marriage, full of love and respect. Her husband TANER AVCI said, "I am happy to be her husband, she is an excellent wife. She makes the people around her happy."
